With love and cherished memories, Dan's children leave these final words in honor of their father:
There are no words painful enough to describe the heartbreak I feel right now. My heart is shattered, my soul feels heavy, and I am completely numb. Losing my dad to cancer has broken me in ways I never imagined possible. I keep asking myself how we are supposed to continue life without someone who meant so much to us.
My dad was one of the most giving, loving, funny, and social people you could ever know. He had a light about him that could make people smile, laugh, and feel loved. He was the kind of person who would help anyone without hesitation and always made people feel welcomed. His silly personality and sense of humor could brighten even the darkest days.
More than anything, he was a present dad. He showed up. He loved us the best way he knew how, and he truly did his best for all of his children. We never had to question if he loved us because we felt it every day in the little things he did. And if there’s one thing everyone knows, it’s that his kids and grandkids absolutely adored him. We loved his goofy jokes, his silly personality, and the way he could make us laugh when we needed it most.
The pain of losing him feels unbearable. There will forever be a space in our hearts that can never be filled, a void that will stay with us for the rest of our lives. A love this big leaves behind an ache that never truly disappears.
Dad, we hope you are finally at peace, free from pain, no longer suffering, and watching over us as our guardian angel in Heaven. We hope you knew just how deeply loved you were and how much you meant to all of us. We will miss you every single day for the rest of our lives.
Until we see you again, we will carry your love, your laughter, and your memory with us forever. We hope to make you proud.
We love you endlessly, Dad. Fly high and rest easy. 🤍
As a farewell, he left us this poem:
I MADE IT HOME
I just wanted to let you know I made it home.
Everything is so pretty here, so fresh, so new. I wish that you could close your eyes so you could see it too.
Please try not to be sad for me. Try to understand. God is taking care of me... I'm in the shelter of His hands.
Here there is no sadness, and no sorrow, and no pain. Here there is no crying, and I'll never hurt again.
Here it is so peaceful, when all the angels sing. I really have to go now... I've just got to try my wings.
PS... I'll be the first face you see when you get here!
