
David L. McFarland, 77, passed away late Friday evening, June 3, 2011, at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. Born October 27, 1933 in Mansfield, he was one of six children born to Beatrice Huss and Leonard McFarland. Raised on the family farm, David graduated from Union School and entered the U.S. Naval Reserve. He married Jeanette Smith on June 5, 1954, and they shared nearly 57 wonderful years of marriage. David retired from ODOT in 1996 and prior to that employment was a truck driver for 10 years. An outdoor man, he enjoyed gardening and sharing his love of nature with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed spoiling the children with his baked goods. David was a member of the Park Avenue West First Church of God and later attended Ridgeway First Church of God.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by two children, Ronald Carol McFarland and Pamala John Witter; four grandchildren, Sieglinde Mario Ramirez, Megan Tucker, David Bobbie Witter, and Melissa Witter Vic Barnett; five great-grandchildren, Alexander and Roman Ramirez, Jessica Witter and Rowan and Elliana Tucker; two sisters, Sharon Sifferlin and Carolyn Eichelberger; a brother, Robert McFarland; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth McFarland; and sister, Betty Stanley.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. Rev. Jeff Gray of the First Church of God will conduct the service. Friends and family may visit beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
