Delbert E. 'Del' Beer, 69 of Mansfield, died Tuesday morning December 7, 2004 at MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital after a brief illness. Born December 23, 1934 in Mansfield, he was the son of Robert E. and Kathryn M. Leedy Beer. He served in the U.S. Army in the Third Infantry Division from 1957 to 1959. He farmed in Shelby, Ohio and worked at the Ontario GM plant for 19 ½ years, and then moved with his family to Bryant, South Dakota where he farmed for 15 years. Del moved back to the Mansfield area in 1985 and retired in 2004 as a truck driver. Del enjoyed horses, hunting, NASCAR, and Mardi Gras.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, James and Karin Beer of Hendricks, Minnesota; two daughters and son-in-law, Dianne Wannarka of Eagle Lake, Minnesota, and Kristi and Shawn Odegaard of Lake Preston, South Dakota; former wife, Janet Cline Beer; seven grandchildren, Justin, Jeremy, and Jerrad Beer, Sarah and Jordan Wannarka, and Brandy and Taren Odegaard; two great grandchildren, Jayden and Benjamin Johnson; mother, Kathryn M. Leedy Beer; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Rexford and Marilyn Beer and Alvin and Janet Beer, all of Mansfield, and Dennis and Sandy Beer of Columbus; one sister, Kathy Stacy of Overland Park, Kansas; sister-in-law, Pat Beer; brother-in-law, Dale Gabor; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert E. Beer; brother, Kenneth Beer; and sister, Donna Beer Gabor.
Friends and family may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday December 10, 2004 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday December 11 at the funeral home officiated by the Apostolic Christian Church of North Illinois Ave. Military graveside services will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
