
Donald Maurice McCready, 79, of Mansfield, died Friday, January 12, 2007 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital from pulmonary complications. Don was born August 3, 1927 in Mansfield to William Gerald and Helen Graham McCready. A Mansfield Senior High graduate and a member of the U.S. Navy, he married and is survived by his high school sweetheart of 58 years, Lois Richert. They were married at and are members of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and have lived in the Mansfield area their entire lives. Donald was president and a co-owner of W.G. McCready and Sons until his retirement and the closing of the business in 1993. Since then he had remained active, keeping up with the activities of his many grand and great grandchildren, as well as the activities of his church. One of his greatest joys was overseeing the set-up of the Easter Sunrise Service at Kingwood Center for his entire adult life. A member of the Men's Gardening Club, he and Lois enjoyed gardening and he volunteered working in Kingwood's gardens. After his retirement, he also enjoyed delivering prescriptions and talking with the recipients for the Medicine Shoppe, so much so, that one time he forgot to leave the medicine. He also enjoyed helping his five sons and families with their many projects.He is survived by his wife, Lois; four sons, Gary and Bonnie McCready of Wilmington, North Carolina, John and Gloria McCready of Lexington, Jim and Cindy McCready of Bellville, and Ron and Connie McCready of Ontario; daughter-in-law, Linda McCready of Brevard, North Carolina; 13 grandchildren; three step granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; brother, Robert McCready of Lexington; and sister, Cheryl Strohminger of Lexington. He was preceded in death by his parents, and son, David.Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Monday, January 15, 2007 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home conducted by Rev. Jon Steingass. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, or St. Mark's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
