

Donald L. Walters, 89, of Ashland, passed away Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Brethren Care Nursing Home. Born November 19, 1928 in Bellville, Ohio, he was the son of Glenn and Mary Geneva (Keifer) Walters.
Don was a proud veteran of the United States Navy as a Seabee, serving during World War II. He worked for many years at Henry Lumber in Mansfield, and eventually retired from Lazarus Department Store where he worked in maintenance. Don was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church and was also a member of the American Legion, VFW, NRA and the Ashland County Conservation Farm. He enjoyed collecting coins and restoring cars and was proud of his 1957 and 1970 restored Chevy's.
He is survived by a brother, Jim Walters; a sister, Bonita Banks; and a niece, Carolyn Awwiller in addition to numerous other nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen J. (Baker) Walters; two brothers, Richard Walters and Jerry Walters; and a sister, Betty McDonald.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Avenue, Ashland. Burial will follow in Ashland County Memorial Park Mausoleum. Friends may call one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., at the funeral home on Tuesday.
