
Dr. Robert Kyle Pollock, age 89, of 2386 Texter Road, died early Saturday morning at MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital following a brief illness. Dr. Pollock was born March 28, 1911 in Ashland, Ohio living in the Mansfield area since 1944. He was an Oral Surgeon retiring in 1986. Dr. Pollock was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Mansfield Dental Society, American Dental Association, Ohio State Dental Association, Central Ohio Dental Association, Great Lakes Society of Oral Surgeons, Board Certified Fellow with American Society of Oral Surgeons, a life member of Ohio State Alumni Association. He received an honorary degree from the Pierre Fauchard Academy in 1955. Dr. Pollock was a 55 year member of Mansfield Kiwanis serving as a board member and President in 1951; he was Kiwanian of the month multiple times, and Kiwanian of the year in 1988. He received committee award in 1985 for Agriculture and was nominated for the Hickson Fellowship award for lifelong commitment to Kiwanis. Dr. Pollock was instrumental in the building of the small animal barn at Richland County Fairgrounds. He co-chaired a special public health project for school children. He was a 64 year member of Venus Lodge #152 F. & A.M., 32 degree of Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, Al Koran Shrine of Cleveland. Dr. Pollock was voted Boss of the year in 1955 by the American Business Womens Association. He was on the Board of Trustees and President Richland County Crippled Children Association. Dr. Pollock was Chairman & past Vice President on the Board of The Salvation Army. He was an oral surgeon with the Ohio State Reformatory for over 25 years, Secretary-Treasurer with Great Lakes Society of Oral Surgeons; a member of Mansfield Board of Health & Mental Health Council. Dr. Pollock was co-founder & Board member of Friendly House Dental Clinic. He served on staff of numerous area hospitals. Dr. Pollock was a 1929 graduate of Ashland High School, a 1932 graduate of Ashland College and a 1939 graduate of Ohio State University School of Dentistry. He served his residency at Hawthornden State Hospital in Cleveland, practiced general dentistry until 1955, then specialized in Oral Surgery retiring in 1986. For a number of years he was the only oral surgeon in this area. Dr. Pollock assisted numerous charitable organizations, especially caring for underprivileged children in the Mansfield City School System. He was a Civil War Enthusiast. He was an avid cattleman & horseman, managing three farms in Richland & Morrow Counties an interest he shared with his friend Louis Bromfield. The farm he most loved was his Cresthaven Farm, where he raised registered Aberdeen Angus Cattle & Registered Tennessee Walking Horses, until the time of his death. Dr. Pollock was a veteran of World War II serving with the 4th Medical Battalion in Ft. Benning, Georgia.
Surviving are his wife, LeMoyne Shank Pollock with whom he would have celebrated 66 years of marriage on August 25, 2000; twin daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy & Frank Rose of Texas Terry & Tom Ruckman of Colorado; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jay Scott & Mary Elizabeth Kyle Pollock; his aunt & uncle, Alverda & William Fellenbaum, who raised him from the age of 8. Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. Masonic services will be held Tuesday evening at 8:30 a.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, conducted by Rev. Dennis Allison. Military graveside services will be held at Ashland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or The Salvation Army.
