Edith Richardson O’Leary passed away Saturday afternoon, January 12, 2013 at MedCentral Shelby Hospital. She was born May 1 to Ocie and Lula (Thrash) Spivey in Eclectic, Alabama. Edith never let anyone know her birth year because she wanted to “keep everyone guessing” as to her true age.
She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, canning, golf, and football-especially the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes. Edith took great pride in her garden and much delight in providing her family and friends with her home grown produce. A homebody at heart, she found joy in working hard in her yard with her pets by her side. Edith loved big family gatherings and always signed up for “pie duty” proudly sharing her beautiful baked goods with her family.
She is survived by five children, Karen (Michael) Leedom, Terry (Kathy) Richardson, Susan (Stephen) Bird, David (Carrie) Richardson and Kenneth (Gerry) O’Leary; grandchildren, Lori (Chuck) Dillie, Jennifer Leedom (Steven Lakes), Jason Baker, Mariah (Kenneth) Baker Johnson, Vincent Richardson, Keegan Bird, Lauren (Mikel) Clair and Clayton Richardson; one great-grandchild, Paige Richardson; seven step grandchildren; ten step great-grandchildren; and three step great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Roy Spivey and Elmer (Web) Spivey; sisters, Naomi West, Irene Robbins and Thelma Murray; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward O’Leary; sister, Lois; an infant brother; and stepson, Edward O’Leary, Jr.
A memorial service conducted by Pastor Jeff Gray will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. in the Life Celebration Reception Center, 129 S. Main St., Mansfield. Friends and family may visit beginning at 1:00 p.m. The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family.
