
Elery Carpenter, 76, of 706 Villa Dr. died Tuesday morning February 27, 2001 at home following an eleven month illness. Mr. Carpenter was born May 3, 1924 in Parkersburg, West Virginia, and has resided in the Mansfield area for the past fifty-four years. Mr. Carpenter was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Infantry in Europe. He retired from General Motors working in Quality Control. He was a member of Mansfield Baptist Temple, was the Past Master of Venus Lodge # 152 F & AM; a member of Chapter, Council Commandery Baku Grotto; and Past Patron Ruth Chapter #17 Order of The Eastern Star.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Velma L. Stewart; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda L. and Phil Stoodt of Mansfield; Pamela L. and Larry Evans of Benton, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Michael A. Strohminger; Amy L. and her husband, Michael Kitts; Morgan E. Evans and Ross C. Evans; three great-grandchildren, Katlynn S. Crawford; and Laura M. and Michael R. Kitts Jr.; two brothers, Emmett W. Carpenter of St. Ignatius, Maryland and Burhl Carpenter of Alma, Arkansas; and one sister, Betty Jean Arnett of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren C. and Icy M. Carpenter; three brothers and one sister.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with Masonic Services being held at 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home conducted by the Rev. Dale Adkins of Mansfield Baptist Temple. Joint Veteran Council will conduct military graveside services in Mansfield Memorial Park.
