Elizabeth Jones

Elizabeth 'Bettie' A. Jones, of Mansfield died unexpectedly at her home. She retired in 2003 after serving two terms as Springfield Township Trustee. Bettie was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and had many honors bestowed upon her, including District Exchange Member of the Year. A member of the Democratic Party, she loved her community and was always working to make it better. Bettie was instrumental in restoring and maintaining the upkeep of the cemetery at the corner of Home and Millsboro Roads. She was a member of Mansfield Exchange Club, United Way, Habitat for Humanity, Harmony House/Friends of Harmony House-Homeless Shelter for Women, Parent Aide Program, Amvets, American Legion, V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. She was pivotal in fund raising efforts for community causes such as Ontario Fire Dept., Kidney Foundation, Harmony House Wal-Mart Sleep-Out, Candlelight Vigil and Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

She is survived by two sons, Don E. Cindy Connell of Venice, Fla., and Robert L. Connell, Jr. of Mansfield; a daughter, Barbara A. Harmony of Ontario; six grandchildren, Brandy, Nicole, and Natalie Connell of Oklahoma, Jessica Connell of Sarasota, Fla., 2nd Lt. Charles E. Connell of the USAF and Jared L. Harmony of Ontario; and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Thursday, July 21 from 6-8 p.m. with a vigil service officiated by Deacon Terry Philpott at 8:00 p.m. Additional calling hours will be held at the funeral home, Friday, July 22, from 1-3 and 5-8 p.m., at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, officiated by Father Michael Zacharias. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made at the funeral home to the 'Bettie' Jones Memorial Juvenile Diabetes Research Walk, payable to JDRF, or mail in care of Carol Brown, Program Director, 516 Marion Avenue, Mansfield, Ohio 44903 or Parent Aide Program, 91 Park Avenue West, Mansfield, Ohio 44902.
