Elizabeth D. Matthes, 87, of Mansfield, died late Wednesday evening, September 21, 2005, at Crestwood Care Center in Shelby. Born May 13, 1918, in Butler, she was the daughter of Edis L. and Goldie Mae Newcomer Yarger. She graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1936. An area homemaker her entire life, Mrs. Matthes was a long time member of Main Street United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Gleaners Sunday school class.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Carol Matthes of Ontario; two grandsons and their wives, Michael and Christy Matthes and David and Amy Matthes, all of Ontario; three great-grandsons, Jared, Jordan and Alex Matthes; two sisters, Adeline and Marjorie Stockwell, both of Mansfield; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Glenn Lester Matthes, brother, Samuel Yarger, and three sisters, Dorothy Yarger, Ruby Craig and Joyce Bletz.
There will be no calling hours or services. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park. The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors assisted the family with arrangements.
