Elmer was proud being an American and served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Elmer loved to work whether in the garden, washing dishes, or going to the Steel Mill to work his 16 hour days. We called him the Overtime Man. Elmer was a man who always woke up happy, never complaining. He was honest, kind, an uncomplicated man. To him life was simple loving his family, serving God, a good pot of coffee, and his sister Esta’s pound cake. He never forgot his home on Garvin Ridge and the love of family and friends.
Elmer is survived by his wife of 46 years, Shirley A. Bond; his children, Molly (Michael) Moore and Holly (Steve) Rice; grandchildren Lincoln Joseph Rice and Harrison Bond Rice; his brothers Jack (Nettie) Bond, Roger Bond, and Lester (Rebecca) Bond; his sisters, Virgie (Caroll) Barker, Mary Opal Conn, Judy (Leroy) Stone, and Betty (Roger) Bailey; sister-in-law Rita Hill, brother-in-laws Lewis Stigall; Hank Stricklin, and Fred Rumery. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Charles, Phillip, and Danny; his sisters Zelma, Rema, Stella, and Esta.
Our gratitude to special friends Jr. Gee, Burley Sizemore, and Bill Reynolds. They were always faithful.
