

Ethel Marie Hoover, 90, of Mansfield, passed away Thursday morning, May 24, 2018, at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. She was born June 24, 1927, in Shelby, Ohio, to the late Carl Edward and Helen Pauline (Fried) Laughbaum.
In her early years, she worked at her father's grocery, Laughbaum's Food Market in Shelby, then at Blake's Bakery in Mansfield, followed by a position as an alteration specialist at JC Penney. After her children were born, she took in laundry to supplement the family income. On October 20, 1946, she married the love of her life, Floyd M. Hoover in Shelby. They lived in the Shelby/Mansfield area for several years before moving to Stow, Ohio, in 1966 and living there for 25 years. They lived in Vermilion for 10 years and then settled back in Mansfield permanently. During her children's younger years, she served as a Girl Scout Leader. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, boating and camping. She was an avid Bridge player, belonging to three Bridge clubs. She enjoyed passing the time in the company of her dog.
Ethel is survived by two daughters, Linda (Walter) Hunsinger of Mansfield and Cathy Jenkins of Akron; six grandchildren, Tami Hunsinger, Loree (Chris) Wilson, Brandon (Stacy) Hunsinger, Gina Waligura, Missy (Scott) Newcomer and Tomy (Taylor) Jenkins; and eight great-grandchildren, Amelia Wilson, Arenal Hunsinger, Jared Waligura, Adam Waligura, Kara Waligura, Jacob Newcomer, Gabriel Newcomer and Natalie Newcomer. She is also survived by a sister, Martha Smith; sister-in-law, Candy Bostick; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of nearly 68 years, Floyd M. Hoover, who preceded her in death in 2014; and a sister, Wanda Sell.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 South Diamond Street, Mansfield. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home conducted by Rev. Dr. Ronald Kline. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
