Eugene Mingus, Sr.

Eugene E. Mingus, Sr., 87, of 2561 Scioto Trail, Portsmouth, OH, died Friday, August 1, 2008, at Crystal Care Center, Ashland, Ohio. Born June 20, 1921, in Lucasville, he was the son of Elda and Mary F. Nunley Mingus. A veteran of the United States Army, he was a member of the AMVETS, Elks and a life member of the American Legion. He enjoyed bowling, roofing and working on sewing machines.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy M. Bauer Mingus; children, Eugene Connie Mingus, Jr. of Windsor, OH, Judy Mingus of Ashland, Robert Wilma Mingus, Sr. of McDermitt, OH, Jerry Mingus, Sr. of Columbus, Susan Gary Drushel of Ashland, Paul Mary Mingus of Bedford Heights, Joyce Robert Carpenter of Ashland, Cheryl Mingus of Ashland, Keith Changhong Mingus of Brownsburg, IN, Nagenena Elvin Zapata of Arlington, TX and Benny Mingus of Ashland; 20 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Combs Mingus; a grandson, Robert Carpenter, Jr.; a grandson-in-law, David Gonzalez, Sr.; a great granddaughter, Monique Edgington; and numerous brothers and sisters.

Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2008, at Harger Cemetery in Lucasville, with eulogy services conducted by Keith Mingus. There will be no calling hours. The Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family of Mr. Mingus.
