
Eugene Thomas Studer, 70, died Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital after a long illness. He died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his loving wife, children, and grandchildren. Gene was loved by everyone who knew him. He had an outstanding sense of humor and found good in everyone and everything. He had a strong faith in God and was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and also attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Somerset. Gene was born June 26, 1935 in Somerset to Joseph and Mary Decot Studer. After graduating from Holy Trinity High School, he joined the U.S. Navy and served four years. After his service, he married Shirley Patterson in 1966. During their 40-year marriage, they raised eight children. Gene retired from General Motors after 30 years. He looked forward to retirement and doing the things he enjoyed. His hobbies included rocking in his chair, drinking beer, playing euchre, and spending time with his family.
Surviving Gene are his loving wife Shirley; their children, Chris Studer, Jack and Anita Fugett, Deb and Patrick Myers, John Myers, George and Michelle Myers, Wendy Studer Richards, Greg and Tonya Studer Iiams, and James Richards; 11 grandchildren, Veronica, Melissa, Christina, Nicholas, Houston, Tabby, Dalton, Jordan, Jessie, Dylan, and Quinton; two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Lucas; and mother-in-law, Marjorie Patterson. Gene was preceded in death by his youngest daughter, Mendy; close cousin, Kenny; his parents; four brothers; and two sisters.
Friends may call fro 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, January 13, 2006 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home conducted by Father Tony Borgia. The Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail will conduct services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurses Association.
