Evelyn Eugenia Haight, 78, of Mansfield passed away peacefully at home on February 2, 2021. She was born in Orlando, Florida, to Alfred E. and Evelyn D. Ratterree on October 24, 1942, and grew up in Winter Park, Florida.
Evelyn, a 1960 graduate of Winter Park High School, met Richard “Dick” Haight just after high school at a dance. Shortly thereafter, they married and began their family with their first two sons, Donald and Richard Crosby. Dick’s work moved the family to Columbus, Ohio, in 1971 and soon they gave birth to their daughter, Robin Michelle. In 1973, they made their final move to Mansfield to start their own business, and soon after, in 1975, their youngest son, Daniel Glenn, was born.
While her children were young, Evelyn was a busy homemaker, known for whipping up the most adorable clothes for her kids on her sewing machine and spoiling them with tasty homemade desserts every night. As her children grew older, she enjoyed her time working at Sutton Bank Mortgage and being a member of the Westbrook Country Club for 40 years. This is where she learned the game of golf and played countless rounds with some of her dearest friends.
Evelyn was also an active lifelong member of her social sorority, Beta Sigma Phi. Many of Evelyn’s dearest friends and fondest memories are from her time with her sisters.
Those who knew Evelyn knew she loved to have fun - from dancing to playing bridge. She loved life and enjoyed time with her friends and family. She was always up for dominos or a few games of bowling at Lex Lanes, where she was in a league for several years. Evelyn also enjoyed traveling, especially to Maggie Valley with friends to golf, and even more so to the beach where she could have her favorite, key lime pie. But more than anything, Evelyn loved her family and would do anything for them. Evelyn approached every moment of her life with positivity, no matter the circumstances. She showered her family and friends with unconditional love and brought out the best in everyone who was fortunate enough to know her. She was immensely proud of each of her children and would talk about her grandchildren to anyone who would listen!
Preceding her in death are Evelyn’s parents. Evelyn is survived by her loving husband and lifelong companion, Richard Washburn Haight of Mansfield; her children, Donald (Sarah) Haight, Rich (Jackie) Haight, Robin (Allen) Bostic and Daniel (Joanne) Haight; nine grandchildren, Sydney Haight, Richard Haight, Mitchell Haight, Justen Haight, Ethan Haight, Nicholas Bostic, Emma Bostic, Madeline Haight and Grace Haight, who lovingly called her Nana. Evelyn also leaves behind all of those she loved as much as her own family, from neighbors to lifelong friends.
"Let not your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me. "In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And when I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also." John 14:1-3
