She had 2 brothers, 1 sister (one of four children), moved to St. Louis at about 12 years old, then to Youngstown, Ohio where she graduated from Rayen High School. Then continuing her education, she went to school for nursing and was a registered nurse for 30 years. After retiring as an RN, she ran an elderly care center in Youngstown.
Fannie loved her church and faithfully served the Lord throughout her life. She cherished reading her Bible, spending time with her family, and traveling. One of her favorite sayings was, “If you’re going to worry, why pray? But if you’re going to pray, why worry?”
After retiring from the elderly care center, Fannie embraced her most treasured role as a full-time grandmother. Following the passing of her daughter, she lovingly adopted and devoted herself to raising her grandchildren.
Fannie also had a passion for fashion, shopping, and self-care, and she especially enjoyed getting her nails done. Her warmth, strength, and grace will always be remembered.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, she married June 28, 1964, Freddie B. Duck passed in 1998; brother, Charles Rhodes; brother, Joseph Collins; sister, Louise Alexander; daughter, Leslie Duck; daughter, Wanda Duck; and granddaughter, Tasheda “Tee” Duck.
Fannie is survived by her daughter, Pendelon “Penny” (John) Bryant; grandchildren, Rasheda Bryant, John Bryant, Shawanda Shavers (Diante), Tunicqua Duck, Tyreese Duck, Sr., Quanna Duck, Liza Duck; nine great grandchildren, Zarri’Yon, Na’Dira, Ja’Kayla, Jaylen II, E’Ziah, A’Miya, Tyreese, Jr., Honesti, Ra’Mari, many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins; and grand fur baby, Bentley.
Fannie always knew how to lift you up when you were down. The way she lived her life was a powerful example for her family—one of strength, faith, and perseverance. She never gave up, meeting every challenge with remarkable resilience. Deeply loving yet wonderfully stubborn, she taught her grandchildren to stand firm in their beliefs and to always lean on God first. Her legacy of love, faith, and determination will continue to guide all who were blessed to know her. Her church homes were New and Living Way Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ and Full Gospel Miracle Center.
