Floyd served in the U.S. Air Force as a mechanic. Following his military service, he managed several gas stations and later retired from OSU Mansfield as a boiler maintenance worker. Floyd enjoyed camping with his wife, Betty. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW 9943, and attended the Mayflower Congregational Church.
Floyd is survived by his three sons, Frank (Cindy) Dawson, Randy (Pam) Dawson both of Mansfield, and Paul (Chris) Dawson of Perrysville; eight grandchildren, Sarah, Devina, Shawn, Matthew, Jackie, Jason, Tracy and Derek Dawson; eight great-grandchildren, Katlyn, Kaleb, Clayton, Leland, Jordan, Elizabeth, Robert and Nathaniel; half-sisters, Cheryl Wente and Candice Ziegler; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Dawson; half-brother, Kim Dawson; and daughter-in-law, Jalene Dawson.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 25, 2022 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield, Ohio 44902. A service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Lorry Mabiala officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. He will be laid to rest in Lantz Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mayflower Congregational Church.
