
Frank P. Basilone 'The Prince of Pasta', died late Friday evening, July 6, 2001, at MedCentral Mansfield after a long illness. He was born October 12, 1921, in Lorain, Ohio to Michael and Lula Pettrak Basilone and was a resident of Mansfield for the past 30 years. He was retired from the City of Mansfield where he worked for the Codes and Permits division. Mr. Basilone organized charity dinners and raised thousands of dollars for local high school athletic teams, and for children with life-threatening illnesses. He also organized a semi-pro baseball team in Mansfield for 10 years. He was an Honorary Fireman, member of the Mansfield Softball Association Hall of Fame and received a key to the city when he retired in 1986.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle; one daughter, Anita McElfresh of Mansfield; four sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Marge Basilone of Milan, Ohio, Frank P. and Natalie Basilone Jr., Scott and Kelli Basilone, Tony and Patti Basilone, all of Mansfield; nine grandchildren, Mark, Todd, Abbie, Matt, Tyler, Ann, Brody, and Brad Basilone and Michelle Jordan; four great-grandchildren, Wesley, Colton and Naudia Basilone, and Jacob Jordan; one brother, Bill Basilone of Huron, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. His parents, Michael and Lula Basilone; three brothers, John, Eugene and Eddie Basilone; and three sisters, Geraldine Manning, Delores Taylor, and Josephine Basilone preceded him in death.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Sunday, July 8 from 6-9 p.m. and one hour prior to services to be held Monday at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. conducted by St. Peter's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
