

Garland R. Johnson, 64, of Mansfield, died Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at The Good Shepherd in Ashland. He was born August 26, 1948 in Hugheston, West Virginia to the late Kathryn Mae (Ballard) and Sherman E. Johnson.
Garland graduated in 1966 from Mansfield Senior High School and retired from the City of Mansfield in 2005 after 39 years of service, ending his career in Data Processing Management. He was a member of Mansfield Masonic Lodge #35, and served as Worshipful Master in 1980. He was a member of Baku Grotto, serving as Monarch in 1989. Gar was a member of the Lexington/Shelby Elks #2254; served as Past Commodore at Pleasant Hill Boat Club; and served many years on the Board of Directors at Empire Affiliates Credit Union.
Gar volunteered his time at the Renaissance Theater for many years and was a regular Red Cross blood donor, saving 48 lives with his generosity. In his younger years, he was a skilled bowler, playing on many leagues throughout the years. After retirement, he took up the game of golf and enjoyed walking the Bike Trail.
A very giving man, proud father of his daughters and devoted husband, spending time with his family was the most important activity in Gar's life. Traveling and boating on his pontoon boat on Pleasant Hill Lake were special times.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 37 years, Jane McNamara Johnson; daughters, Alexandra and Victoria Johnson; his faithful four-legged companion, Baxter; sister, Kathryn Gilbert; numerous nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Colleen O'Donnell; and in-laws, Robert and Susan Glorioso and Robert and Cyndi McNamara. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Sherman E. Johnson, Jr. and James Johnson.
Friends may visit from 4-8 p.m. Friday, August 9, 2013 in the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. Masonic Services will be recited at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service conducted by his nephew, Brandon Johnson, will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Stroke Association.
The family wishes to express their thanks to the caregivers at The Good Shepherd, Dr. Anil Paul and all the family and friends who helped them and supported Gar during this difficult time.
