
Gary L. Williams, 61, of Mansfield, died early Tuesday morning, August 30, 2005, at his home after a short illness. Born May 21, 1944, in Mansfield, he was the son of Allen R. and N. June Pollock Williams. Gary was employed as a Firefighter/EMT at Mansfield Station #2 as a captain and retired in 1999 from injuries received on the job. He was named Firefighter of the Year in 1997, received the Purple Heart in 1997 and the Fire Service Valor Award in 1985. He was formerly employed with Washington Township as an EMT/Firefighter. Gary was a Washington Township Trustee, and on the Board of Directors of the Mansfield Fire Museum for 26 years, where he served as curator.
He is survived by his wife, Kay Ann Yockey Williams; son and daughter-in-law, David A. and Kim Williams of Mansfield; grandson, Trey Williams of Mansfield; two granddaughters, Lauren Salyers and Hanna Chase, both of Mansfield; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Floyd and Freda Williams of Thornville, and Paul and Barb Williams of Ono Island, Alabama; two nephews and their spouses, Rick and Kim Williams of Marengo and Mike and Ann Williams of Minneapolis, Minn.; a niece, Alissa Williams of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two uncles, Charles Williams of Mt. Vernon and Ross Johnston of Zanesville; and numerous cousins. His parents preceded him in death.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Friday, September 2, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday 10:30 a.m. at First English Lutheran Church officiated by Rev. Cloyd Kress and Rev. Paul Larson. Friends may also call at the church from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to First English Lutheran Church or Mansfield Fire Museum.
