
George J. Curry, 87, of Mansfield, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at MedCentral Mansfield. Born February 8, 1922, in Rittman, Ohio, he was the son of George and Alice Cline Curry. He was a 1941 graduate of Union High School and was a veteran of World War II serving with the United States Marines. George was employed by Tappan for over 20 years and also owned Curry's Tavern and was part owner of Custom Exhaust from which he retired in 1982. George was a member of the Sons of Herman, the American Legion and the 40 et 8. He enjoyed fast pitch softball, bowling, golf and fishing with his son Tom and numerous friends.
Surviving are three sons, Thomas Linda Curry of Mansfield, Ronald Curry of Abeliene, TX and Glenn Curry of Sandusky; grandchildren, Kacey Waggaman, Tracey Curry, Ronald Curry, Jr., Latrisha Clark, Timothy Curry, Michael Curry and Tammy Curry; numerous great grandchildren; and a brother, Richard Yvonne Curry. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Green Curry in 2007; and a brother, Edward Curry.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2009, at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield, OH 44902 where there will be 40 et 8 services at 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2009, at the funeral home conducted by Rev. Dr. Faith Proietti. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park where full military services will be conducted by the Richland County Veterans Burial Detail. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mifflin Township Rescue Squad.
