George Schmidt, 74, of Mansfield died Friday evening, July 5, 2002 at the Cleveland Clinic after a brief illness. Mr. Schmidt was born April 2, 1928 in Romania and lived in the Mansfield area for the past 51 years. Until his retirement, he was employed with General Motors as a tool and die maker. George belonged to the Mansfield Leiderkranz and enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Katharina Salmann Schmidt; three sons, Eric Schmidt, Walter Schmidt, and Richard Schmidt, all of Mansfield; one granddaughter, Jackie and Daniel Kisling of Mansfield; two great-grandchildren, Kaitlin Kisling and Daniel Kisling; a sister, Katharina Schied of Kitchner Ontario, Canada; a brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Sara Schmidt of Kitchener Ontario, Canada.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Sunday 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be at the funeral home Monday at 10:30 a.m. conducted by Pastor Renato Siewert. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Kidney Foundation.
