
George H. Stafford, 87, of Lexington, died Thursday, December 18, 2008 at Lexington Court Care Center. Born February 11, 1921 in Hayesville, he was the son of Bryan W. and Marie Howard Stafford. He served in the U.S. Navy on the cruiser Vincennes in Guam in the South Pacific. George retired from Lexington Schools in 1986 as a custodian and was a route salesman for Page Dairy for 22 years. He was a member of First English Lutheran Church. George was also a member of Marquis Lodge #690 F & AM and AARP.
He is survived by his wife, Garnet E. Mason Stafford; son, Jeffery Nancy Stafford of Marietta, Georgia; brother, Richard Lee Eleanor Stafford of Bellville, KS; sister, Jeanne Chester "Jack" Soliday of Mansfield; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Vivien Landfried.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, December 22, 2008 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd, conducted by Rev. Andrew W. Jones. Friends may call from 12 to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Military graveside services conducted by the Richland County Joint Veteran's Burial Detail will take place at the funeral home following the service. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to First English Lutheran Church or the charity of the donor's choice.
