Gerald Shanks

Gerald L. Shanks, 73, of Ashland, died Sunday, February 22, 2009, at Hospice House in Ashland. Born August 17, 1935, in Ashland, he was the son of Frances M. Wolf Shanks. Gerald retired from Mets Machine Shop and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, B.P.O. Elks #1360, Ashland Eagles Club and Ashland Moose Lodge. He enjoyed fishing and golfing.

Surviving are his wife, Daun Dalton Shanks; three children, Claudia Shanks and William Shanks both of Ashland and Brian Molly Shanks of Mansfield; two step-daughters, Kim Stitzlein of Loudonville and Kelly Jim Hartshorne of Dublin; five step grandchildren, Molly Kern, Shannon Stitzlein, Holly, Jamie and Heath Hartshorne; and two step great grandchildren, Connor and Emily Kern. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A gathering for family and friends will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, February 27, 2009, at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Avenue, Ashland, OH 44805, where B.P.O. Elks services will be held at 7:30 p.m.. Memorial funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 28, 2009, at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Sanford C. Mitchell. Burial will be in Vermillion Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
