
Gordon Baker, 75, of Mansfield, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at his home. Born November 7, 1934 in Sciotoville, he was the son of Robert L. and Nona Ramey Baker. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and retired from AK Steel. Very dedicated to his family, Gordon loved his grandchildren. He enjoyed the bike trails and would ride 40 miles a day. Gordon was 'The Rock' and center of the family. Lovable and caring, he was a great and loyal man. Gordon was a member of the Eagles #336, Owls Lodge, American Legion #0016 of Mansfield, and the Son's of Herman. He was also a life member of the Amvets #26 and a member of the VFW #9943.
He is survived by his daughter, Juanita Slaughter; brothers, Luther T. Baker of Shelby, Robert and Maria Baker of Delaware, and Wendell Baker of Mansfield; sister, Marilyn Jones of Washington; grandson, Travis Slaughter of Ashland; granddaughters, Denise Tuttle of Ashland, and Nancy and Kevin Bowles of Ashland; and great-grandchildren, Miles Farnsworth, and Mya Bowles and Jon Blodgett; his girlfriend and best friend, Barb Hipp; and his special friend, Marcene Higgins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Victoria Baker; one grandson, John J. Tuttle; and five brothers.
Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 13, 2010 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Military graveside services conducted by the Richland County Joint Veteran's Burial Detail will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
