
Gwendolyn Wharton McBride, 78, of Mansfield died Wednesday morning, April 16, 2003 at Woodlawn Nursing Home. Mrs. McBride was born March 11, 1925 in Columbus, Ohio to Hoy Q. & Frances E. Paul Wharton. She was a member of Southside Christian Church. Gwendolyn was Past Matron of Rizpah Chapter O.E.S., Past Worthy High Priestess of Naomi Shrine W.S. of J., Past Royal Matron of Akron Court Order of Amaranth, Past President of Social Order of Beauceant, Akron, Ohio and Past President of Ohio White Shrine. She was a member of the Angel Refuge board, Liederkranz and AmVets #43 of Bellville and a volunteer for many organizations including the Red Cross and the Board of Elections.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Dean L. McBride; two stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Sheila & Michael Caruthers and Robyn & Harold Clinage; three step granddaughters; two step grandsons; ten step great-grandchildren; six foster children; foster grandchildren; foster great-grandchildren; and two poodles, Danielle and Velvet.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Friday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. where White Shrine Services will be held at 7:00 and Eastern Star Services at 8:00. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home conducted by Rev. Faith Proietti. Burial will follow at Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the donor's choice.
