
Harold R. Hill, 77, of Mansfield, died Monday evening, September 29, 2003 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Hill was born July 10, 1926 in Mansfield, residing in the area all of his life. He had worked at Morgan Cleaners and Mansfield Hardware, retiring from Wagner Hardware in 1991. Drafted in 1944 while in High School, Harold served as PFC with the U.S. Army during World War II under General Patton, receiving decorations, which included Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Ribbon and European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon. Harold recently received his honorary diploma from Mansfield Senior High School. He was a charter member at St. Timothy Lutheran Church. Mr. Hill was founding member and past president of Richland County Barn Raisers and previous member and past treasurer of Richland Rural Life Center. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather; his compassionate manner and good sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Juanita Franklin Hill owner operator of Park Ave. West Cleaners. Two daughters and one son-in-law, Cynthia A. Hill; and Cheryl K. and Brett Edwards all of Mansfield; three grandchildren, Blake, Bryce and Chase Edwards all of Mansfield; and other surviving relatives, including cousins, several nieces and nephews and other special relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Harvey and Dinnie Susan Shults Hill; three brothers, C. Edwin Hill; Frances Harvey Hill Sr. and Earl Grant Hill; two sisters, Mary E. Marlow, and infant sister, Lillian Hill.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Thursday, October 2, 2003 from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at St. Timothy Lutheran Church conducted by the Rev. Bonnie Peltomaa and the Rev. Carl Cunfer. Military graveside services will be held in Windsor Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Richland County Humane Society.
