Helen West

Helen Elizabeth West, 82, of Overland Park, KS died Monday, February 5, 2007 after a brief illness. Helen was born March 19, 1924 in Bellefontaine, Ohio to Harry H. Gordon and Lena Zerkle Gordon. She lived the majority of her life in central Ohio and moved to Panama City, Florida in 1982. The last two years she has resided at Villa St. Joseph Nursing Home in Overland Park, KS. Helen was a nurse for 40 years and held the honor of President of the Ohio Nursing Association. She enjoyed animals, flowers and ceramics. She married Harold D. West in 1945 and he preceded her in death.

Helen is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Catherine and Jim Bailey of Duncan, OK, Sherry Ann and Joe Durbin of Iberia, and Rebecca West of Columbus; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael D. and Jacqueline West of Leawood, KS and Robert E. West of Columbus; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and six brothers and sisters, Gladys Rhodebeck, Don Gordon, Alice Walker, Paul Gordon, David Gordon, Phyllis Zahn. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers and sisters, Kate Sample, Carl Gordon, Ralph Gordon, Wilber Gordon and Nancy Gordon.

Friends may call Wednesday, February 7 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Burial services will be held on Saturday, February 10th at Kent Forest Cemetery in Panama City, Florida. Kent Forest Lawn Funeral Home is handling arrangements in Florida.
