

Henry grew up in Germany and was married to Joan (then Johanna Lenk) in Okel-bei-Syke, Niedersachsen, Germany on May 20, 1948. After immigrating to Defiance, Ohio in 1952 with his wife and daughters, he moved to Mansfield in 1954, where he lived the rest of his life.
Henry owned and operated Papenhausen Upholstering in Mansfield for almost fifty years. Henry enjoyed gardening, photography, travel, camping, crafts, music, conversation, storytelling, and many activities with his family.
He is survived by two daughters, Renate Papenhausen of Mansfield, Ilse Boren of Painesville; a son, Mark (Amy) Papenhausen of Galion; a sister, Emma Gustwiller of Ottawa, OH; a brother, William Brinck of Throckmorton, TX; two grandsons, Vaughn Papenhausen and Max Papenhausen, both of Galion; and many cousins, nieces and nephews, and beloved in-laws, in both the U.S. and Germany.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Papenhausen; his father, Heinrich Papenhausen of Bremen, Germany; and his mother, Frieda Fricke Papenhausen Brinck Altecruse, who came to Defiance, Ohio in 1925; and two sisters, Elsa Sack Howard of Cottonwood, AZ, and Clara Norris of Albuquerque, NM.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ontario, where a memorial service will be conducted by Pastor Carol Kilgore at 11a.m. on Tuesday, December 31, 2013. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church. Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to assist the family with arrangements.
