

Jack O. Holmes, 79, of Shelby died late Tuesday evening, July 8, 2014 at his home after a brief illness surrounded by his family. Born January 15, 1935, in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, he was the son of the late Edna Faye Hastler Holmes and Jacob O. Holmes. Jack retired as a draftsman with Ideal Electric.
Jack had been a member of Cook Road Baptist Church. He enjoyed recycling, tinkering and carpentry. He was a collector and enjoyed watching NASCAR and dirt track racing.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Hairston Holmes; two sons, Gary (Denise) Holmes of Mansfield and Timothy (Dee Dee) Holmes of Shiloh; fifteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; three step daughters, Jill (Mark) Brown, Jodie (Bill) Burdge and Jane (Nathan) Rigg, all of Shelby; a sister, Sheryl (Jim) Ogden of Mansfield; a brother, Ardell (Ida Mae) Holmes of GA; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sons, Robert Orlan and Thomas Allen; first wife, Betty Jane Holmes; and sister, Mabel Olsen.
The family will receive friends from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2014 in the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. The funeral service conducted by Rev. Jack Hackworth will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, in honor of his great-grandson.
