
James W. Burton, age 81, of Mansfield died Sunday morning, February 16, 2003 at MedCentral Mansfield after an extended illness. Mr. Burton was born September 4, 1921 in Kitzmiller, Maryland, moving to Mansfield following WWII. He retired from Maslin Trucking Company and was a member of the American Legion Post #16. Mr. Burton was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army and Naval Reserves.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Heather Crane of England, James Robert and Barbara Burton of Mansfield, Timothy D. and Tammy Burton of Mansfield; two daughters, Diane Marie Burton of Mansfield and Annie Wilson of England; twelve grandchildren, Justin, Jarrod, and James S. Burton, Kelley Berrier, Timothy, Richard, Amber, and Heather Burton, Peter and Rachel Wilson, Matthew Crane and Melanie; 7 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert Burton of Rocky Mt., NC, Marion Burton of Mansfield and Joe Burton of Mansfield; two sisters Betty Connell of Bellville and Shirley Friend of Mansfield and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert C. and Dora Jane Burton; his wife Virginia Eleanor Burton; a brother, Jack Burton; and a sister, Helen Swineford.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Richard Abney. Military services will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
