
James A. Crane, Sr., 79, of Mansfield, died Saturday afternoon, December 20, 2003, at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital after a brief illness. He was born July 27, 1924, in Hocking County, Ohio, to Arthur F. and Nelva McGathney Crane. Until his retirement in 1986, James was employed as a corrections officer with the Ohio State Reformatory. He served during WWII at the Battle of the Bulge as a Staff Sergeant with the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army.He is survived by his wife, Wanda M. Skiver Crane; two sons, James A. Jr. Lucy Crane of Ontario, Thomas Crane of Shelby; daughter, Debra D. Sinclair of Mansfield; six grandchildren, Scott A. Brady, Monica L. Hall, Tabatha Head, Susan A. Crane, Lisa Marie Cummings, and Jolene Renee Crane; seventeen great-grandchildren; three brothers, William Crane of Mansield, Lee Crane of Phillipsburg, Ohio, and Pete Crane of Logan, Ohio; two sisters, Mona Cannon and Deanna Campbell, both of Logan. He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 23, at 1:00 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, officiated by Dr. Ronald e. Beady. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Military graveside services will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made in care of the family.
