Joe Harvey Stanford, Jr. peacefully passed from this life on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 after an extended illness. He was born October 13, 1941 in Carrollton, Mississippi to the late Joe and Maggie (Love) Stanford.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Having lived in Mansfield since 1986, he worked for C & D Taxi Service and Lind Properties, and also served All Believers in Christ Church as Transportation Minister, where he was also a member. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, listening to gospel music and watching westerns.
He leaves to cherish his memories four daughters, Schenelle (Melvin) Girtman, Miyoshi, Cassandra and De’Jon, all of Mansfield; five sons, Joe, Jonnie, Joseph, Jaylen and Michael, all of Mansfield; six sisters, Mary Johnson, Lillie Washington and Dora Hall, all of Mansfield, Dorothy (Rev. Jimmy) Gray of Toledo, OH, Sheila Clay of Ft. Wayne, IN and Gloria Davis of Columbus, OH; seven brothers, Archie Stanford of TX, Herman Stanford of Jackson, MS, Pastor Russell (Mary) Stanford of Mansfield, Wardell Stanford of Columbus, Jesse Dell of Louisville, KY, Darion (Barbara) Stanford of Mansfield, Jarvis (Charlene) Stanford of Marion, IN; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Edward Stanford and a nephew, Rodney Hall.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. in All Believers in Christ Church, 23 N. Main Street, Mansfield with his brother, Pastor Russell Stanford officiating. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at his brother’s house, 27 N. Main St. prior to the services. Military honors will be presented by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Squad. Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family of Mr. Stanford.
