

John was born in Shelby, Ohio on May 25, 1942 to Harrison Morton Eckels and Roseline Lillian (Rhinebolt) Eckels. He attended Plymouth-Shelby High School. He served in the United States Army from 1964 until 1966, and was stationed at Fort Ord, California in the motor pool where he worked on tanks and transport vehicles. He also served in the motor pool in Germany. He returned to Fort Hamilton, New York where received an Honorable Discharge on April 30, 1970.
John enjoyed fixing things and working with his hands. He used these skills throughout his life for various positions in maintenance, retiring from Milark Industries.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening and watching Ohio State Buckeye football.
Surviving are his two sons, John Harrison Eckels (Misty D. Brackett) of Mansfield, Jeremy Eckels (Dawn Borders-Sutton) of Galion, and his daughter, Nikki Bilancini (Todd) of Fredericktown). He is also survived by his grandchildren; Cody Payne, Demetria Eckels, Cara, Ethan and Brayden Eckels, and Kylie Bilancini. He also leaves behind his special furry companion, Oreo.
John is preceded in death by his parents, a sister and two brothers.
John will be interred at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Services are pending.
