John Owens, Jr.

John L. 'Johnny O' Owens, Jr., 54, passed away suddenly Saturday afternoon, April 23, 2011 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. Born June 13, 1956 in Corona, California he was the son of John Sr. and Naomi. Raised in West Virginia and Mansfield he graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1974. In 1988, he married Velva Petty and they made their home in Mansfield. Well known in the community, John was employed at Sabin Robbins and was a member of V.F. W. Post #9943. An outstanding grandfather, he enjoyed the times spent with his family. John was an excellent BBQ cook, and enjoyed music and fishing. An avid sports fan, John enjoyed following the Cleveland Browns.

He is survived by his wife, Velva Owens; children, Durell, Michael, Tiffani, Shawn and Leonetra; grandchildren, Micah, Jaelyn, Tayshon and Nye; sisters, Joyce, Margorie, and Alma; stepmother, Julia; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and several uncles.

Friends may visit from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 28, 2011 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. Memorial contributions may be made in care of the family at the funeral home.
