
John A. "Jack" Schoonyan, Sr., 69, of Lucas, died Sunday, August 15, 2010 after an extended illness at his home surrounded by his family. Born March 19, 1941 in Mansfield, he was the son of John and Martha Flenner Schoonyan. He worked 13 years at Krogers as a meat cutter and retired from Nickles Bakery, serving the Bellville, Butler, and Lexington area. Jack was a member of the Bellville Masonic Lodge #376, the Valley of Canton 32 Degree, the Shriners in Cleveland, and the Bellville American Legion Post #535. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was always willing to help others.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marcella Fife Schoonyan; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and James Ludwig of Bellville; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Tammy Schoonyan, Jr. of Bellville, and Greg and Jazz Schoonyan of Mansfield; eight grandchildren, Amanda, Katy Troy Swanger, Abby, Holli, Nick, and Shyanna Schoonyan, and Tara, Kyle Ashley Ludwig; one great-granddaughter, Kylie Ludwig; brother, Jeff Blackledge of Berlin Center; sisters, Deb Allison of Canfield, and Myra Sfakis of Wellsville; special cousins, Bill Schoonyan of Bellville, and Tom Pore of Mansfield; mother-in-law, Rosemary Fife of Mansfield; and special friends, Howard Kochheiser and Larry Quay. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family wishes to thank the MedCentral Hospice Staff and give a special thanks to Mary Lee and Stephanie.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield with Masonic Services being held at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home conducted by Rev. Dr. Faith Proietti. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to MedCentral Hospice or the Shriners.
