
On August 11, 1950, he married Marilyn M. Hammer and they spent 60 years together. During his earlier life he worked as a mason and as a patrolman for the Mansfield Police Department.
In early 1962 he and his family embarked on a life-time adventure. They bought a 36 foot sailboat named "Sea Quill" in Sandusky, Ohio. With three small children they began a sailing trip that lasted for 2 years. Upon their return to Mansfield in 1964, John and Marilyn began building apartment houses in Mansfield calling their new business "Stimens Apartments".
Some of John's hobbies and interests included boxing, Tai Kwon Do, boating, motorcycle riding, playing guitar, trumpet and the harmonica and extensive traveling. For many years, John and Marilyn owned a 41 foot Morgan Out Island Sloop named "Swan Sail" that they sailed all around Florida and throughout most of the Bahama Islands. For over 36 years, they spent their winters in the warmer climate of Florida and made their home there in recent years.
John is survived by his wife, Marilyn; son, Kurt Stimens; daughter, Diane Reynard all of Mansfield; grandchildren, Melissa Reynard and her fiancé Paul Carlucci of Bozeman, Montana, Ryan Reynard of Charlotte, NC, Benjamin, Brandon, Alexandra, Alandrea, Andrew and Anastasia Stimens. He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel; a daughter, Sheila; and his parents.
There will be no calling hours or services observed. Although cards or calls are welcomed, the family asks that no flowers be sent. The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family of John Stimens.
