

Judith J. Smith, 74, of Shelby, died Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Hospice House in Ashland surrounded by her three children. Born December 26, 1938 in Lucas, Ohio, she was the daughter of Leo. O. and Esther (Gage) Smith.
She was a member of Shelby First Baptist Church where she served on the Pastoral Selection Committee and had worked for the State of Ohio for over 20 years. She was also a Nanny to Drs. David and Elizabeth Brown's sons for many years. She enjoyed learning about the West and Native American Indians and collecting Kachina dolls. She was an avid lover of animals especially cats, dogs and elephants. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling, interior designing and house hunting.
She is survived by a son, Alan (Susan) Roberts of Holland, PA; two daughters, Lori Roberts of Columbus, OH and Christiana Roberts of Edgewood, NM; two grandsons, Dean and Philip; a brother, Roger "Buzzy" Smith of Bellville; three sisters, Colleen "Connie" Pipes of Crestline, Frances Hiltner of Galion and Sharon (Hans) Georg of Ashland; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Audrey Spognardi and an infant brother, Harry Smith.
Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2013 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Ontario. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2013 at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Walt Keib. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service, from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m., Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park at a later date.
