Katherine Schneider, 99, of Mansfield died Tuesday, July 01, 2003 at her home. Four months shy of 100 years, she quietly went home to be with Jesus. Her wish was to fall asleep and the Lord answered her prayer. She was born November 5, 1903 in Crvenka, Yugoslavia. Her mother, Rosalia died when she was 13 and she, along with her father, took care of her three younger siblings. At age 34 she came to America full of hopes and determination to make a new life for herself. She moved to Mansfield, Ohio in 1937 and worked first at Schneider's Bakery. She then went to work for her brother-in-law, Peter Roth at Buckeye Bakery and worked almost 50 years where she was known as the 'Bakery Lady.' Katherine's father was a preacher and taught all his children to love the Lord. She accepted Jesus into her heart as a young girl and was baptized in 1933. This testimony of her strong faith inspired generosity, love and diligent care for others throughout her life. She was an example and inspiration to many and a faithful member of the Apostolic Christian Church.
She is survived by her sister, Theresa Roth of Mansfield; and many nieces and nephews including Bob, Earl, and Harold Roth of Mansfield who lovingly knew her as Dondi.
In honor of Katherine, calling hours will be held Wednesday, July 2, 2003 from 4-7 p.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 3 at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Apostolic Christian Church, 1332 Middle-Bellville Road, Mansfield, Ohio, 44904.
