Kathleen "Kathy" S. Slater, 69, of Shelby, Ohio, went home to her Lord and Saviour on Friday morning, December 16, 2016, at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. She was born April 23, 1947, in Oakland, California, to Van Schoell and Wanda Aileen Robinson Schoell.
Kathy grew up in Oakland and met her husband, Donald K. Slater, while he was stationed there in the Navy. After marrying, they traveled a bit before settling in Ohio 40 years ago. Kathy's personal relationship with Jesus was very important to her, and she lived her life attempting to glorify Him.
Kathy always put her family's needs before her own. She made sure each member had everything needed and was well cared for. They never doubted how much they were loved by her. Kathy's grandchildren were her life and she showered them with love and attention every chance she had. Giving of herself was second nature and she enjoyed caring for others. Having an appreciation for her family, Kathy felt it was important to visit people in area nursing homes who may not have had family members close by to see them regularly.
She is survived by three children, Mary Kay Daniel, Aileen (Bobby) Stewart and Brett (Carey) Slater; five grandchildren, Kylie Slater, Hudson Slater, Ryder Slater, Emily Stewart and Jeanine McQuillen; her father, Van Schoell; and a brother, George Schoell. Kathy was preceded in death by her mother, Wanda Schoell; husband of 45 years, Donald K. Slater, who passed away on March 27, 2012; and a son-in-law, Curt Roth.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, December 19, 2016, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Shelby Help Line Ministries, 29 Walnut St., Shelby, Ohio 44875.
