
Kathryn E. Bennett, 101, of Ontario, died Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at her home. Born August 18, 1908 in Shelby, she was the daughter of Joseph and Adytha Henderson Burrer. Kathryn lived most of her life in Madison Township and belonged to the Reformed Church of Shelby. She retired from Westinghouse Corporation and had worked at a chocolate factory in Shelby. On Christmas Day in 1926, she married the love of her life, Garland Bennett, and he preceded her in death in 1971. Kathryn volunteered her time to the American Red Cross. She was a member of the Daughters of America and a life time member of the American Legion. She loved music and following the concert tours. Kathryn enjoyed world travel, camping, sewing, and photography. Very well read, she enjoyed history and reciting stories from the past. Kathryn belonged to a local knitting club, making booties for veterans at the Soldiers and Sailors Home.
Seven generations of family survive Kathryn, daughters, Jan Tinkham, Jean McCullough, and Barbara Ann Scott, all of Ontario; sons and daughters-in-law, Lloyd and Phyllis Bennett of Mansfield, and David and Sherry Bennett of Scottsdale, Arizona; 18 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 29 great-great-grandchildren; two great-great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Forest Burrer of Mansfield. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert Bennett; brothers, Francis, Hubert, Eldrow, and Paul; and sisters, Mildred Feiganbaum, and Eileen Johnson.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 20, 2010 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd., Mansfield. Friends may also call one hour prior to the 1:30 p.m. funeral service Friday conducted by Rev. Henry Parker and assisted by Ken Kinley and Mike Stone. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to MedCentral Hospice.
