

Katsie Mae Mathews, 68, of Mansfield, died Friday morning, February 28, 2014 in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. She was born March 31, 1945 in Utica, Mississippi, moving to Mansfield at the age of 8. She graduated from Mansfield Senior High School.
Katsie enjoyed cooking, playing cards, listening to music, playing Bingo and watching Lifetime television. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she enjoyed watching scary movies with them and sharing butter pecan ice cream.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Lee Mathews, Sr.; three children, Thomas "Weegee" Lee Mathews, Jr. of Atlanta, GA, Karla Mathews of Columbus and Tanya Mathews of Mansfield; six grandchildren, Kristopher, Bryce, Brittannia and Khayree Mathews, Taqiyy and Solange Johnson; one great-grandchild, Jihondree Thomas Mathews; brothers and sisters, J.W. Parker of Indianapolis, IN, Ora (Steven) Remmer, James (Edie) Watkins, Jr., Bobby (Sarah) Watkins, Mildred (Sylvester) Ginn, and Mary (Andrew) Gosha, all of Mansfield; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert (Joyce) Mathews of CA, Curtis (Connie) Mathews of Petersburg, VA, Kenneth Mathews of Lima, Tyrone (Diane) Mathews, Sr., Larry James Mathews and Anthony Mathews, all of Mansfield, Rosie Mae Powell of CA, LaVonda Kaye (Richard) Isby of Maumee, Elizabeth Mack and Nadine Miller, both of Mansfield; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Johnnie Mae Selmon Watkins; step father, James Watkins, Sr.; two grandchildren; her mother-in-law, Velma Mathews; and two uncles, Watt Selmon, Sr. and Jessie Brooks.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014 in the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home Friday at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor James Watkins, Jr. and Bishop Sylvester Ginn, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. The family will receive guests until the day of services at 793 Sunset Blvd. Apt. 1, Mansfield.
