
Kenneth D. Rowland, 87, of Mansfield, died Thursday, July 9, 2009, at Mansfield Memorial Homes. Born August 26, 1921, in Barlow, Ohio, he was the son of the late James and Nancy E. Parsley Rowland. He served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army earning the EAME Theater Ribbon with 5 Bronze Stars. It was in the Army that Ken began honing his skills as a mechanic, using that knowledge to have a rewarding 38 year career as a certified Ford mechanic. He had worked at R.E. Moorehead Ford, Humphrey's Ford and Bill Call Ford. Ken enjoyed tinkering with various hobbies and traveling. A true 'outdoorsman', he enjoyed camping and walking with his dog, Lucky. He was a member of V.F.W. Mohican Post #9943, American Legion Post #16, and Robert P. Spreng Amvets Post #26.
He is survived by two daughters, Fran Tony Oroson of Nashville, TN and Katy Paul Wehinger of Lexington; a stepson, Rocky Carol Miller of Mansfield; two grandchildren, Michael Wehinger of Frederick, MD and Susan Oller of Redford, MI; two great-granddaughters, Caroline and Allison Wehinger; a sister, Florence Snipes of Mansfield; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene Hanson Rowland; granddaughter, Angela Wehinger; brother, Russell Rowland; and two sisters, Louise Frasier and Goldie Stevens.
Friends may visit Sunday, July 12, 2009, from 5-8 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday, with funeral services following at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Glenn Phillips of Hillside First Church of God will conduct the service. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
