Born August 5, 1936, in Wheelersburg, Ohio, Larry was the son of the late Purdy “Bud” and Sylvia (Gifford) Jennings. Larry was a 1954 graduate of Glenwood High School in New Boston, Ohio. He retired from Armco, Mansfield, Ohio, in 1995 and was a member of USWA Local 169. After retirement, Larry pursued a second career at Walmart, Lexington-Springmill Road, Ontario, Ohio.
Those who knew Larry considered him a kind and gentle soul who saw good in everyone. He liked to share a joke with anyone who would listen and truly never met a stranger. Larry was a people person and working as a Walmart greeter brought as much joy to him as it did to others.
In his early years, Larry was an avid outdoorsman who loved archery, hunting, fishing and camping. He was often found attending auctions and flea markets in the Mansfield area. In his later years, he loved nothing more than to travel and play slot machines in nearby casinos with his wife, Judy, and daughter, Robin.
Larry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judith A. (Raike) Jennings, two daughters, Teresa (Lawrence) Leeders of Bay Village, Ohio, and Robin Jennings of Wheelersburg, Ohio and a son, Derrick (Jacque) Jennings of Maumee, Ohio. He was a proud grandfather of Caitie and Cody Jennings, Michelle (Todd) Farless, and great grandfather of Peyton and Reagan Farless. He is also survived by a sister, Barbara (Paul) Barnhart of West Alexandria, Ohio, a brother, Gordon (Linda) Jennings of Bentonville, Arkansas; a half-sister, Melody Hood of New Boston, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald, and his wife Nancy Jennings of Mansfield, Ohio.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service in celebration of Larry’s life at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 10, 2015, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Ontario, Ohio. In an effort to help others, Larry’s final gift was the donation of his body to The Ohio State University. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Crestwood Care Center.
