
Lawrence M. Mackey, 86, of Ashland, died Saturday, September 18, 2010 at his residence. Born August 26, 1924 in Ashland, he was the son of Arthur Mackey, Sr. and Minnie Snowbarger Mackey. A member of the Church of Christ, Lawrence retired from the Ashland Times-Gazette. He served in the Army during World War II and became a member of the Disabled American Veterans DAV.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Devore Taylor Mackey of Ashland; daughter, Sherry Boreman of Charlotte, NC; stepdaughter, Susan DeHaven of Ashland; grandchildren, Kara David Rice and Trent Boreman, both of North Carolina, and Jennifer Cliff Wittman and Michael DeHaven, both of Ashland; great grandchildren, Kyle, Kaylen, Kameron, and Konner Rice and Dakota, Zachary, and Kaitlyn Boreman, all of North Carolina, and Colton Lee Wittman of Ashland; twin brother, Arthur J. Mackey, Jr. of Ashland; and special pet cat, Bootsie. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty E. Wells Mackey.
Friends may call Wednesday, September 22, 2010 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Ave., Ashland. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home conducted by Minister Jimmy Sanders. Military gravesides services conducted by the Ashland County Veterans Honor Guard will follow in Ashland Cemetery.
