
Leroy Charles Marshall, 97, died Sunday afternoon, September 16, 2001, at Winchester Terrace Nursing Home after a stroke. He was born in Richland County on April 26, 1904, to Tracy and Wolcott Marshall. He was the last survivor of six siblings. Mr. Marshall was a grocer and worked as a Kroger store manager before opening his own store, Marshall's Market, at 612 Bowman Street in 1945. He operated this store until his retirement in 1968. As a young man, Mr. Marshall sold Star automobiles. He was a member of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons, Venus Lodge #0152 and received his fifty-year award in 1999. In 1980, following the death of his wife, Josephine Wall Marshall, to whom he was married in 1923, Mr. Marshall moved to Sarasota, Florida. Later that year, he married Irene James Kunkel who passed away in 1996. Mr. Marshall then returned to Mansfield in 1997 and resided at Infinia Assisted Living on Park Avenue West until shortly before his death.
He is survived by a daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Marshall; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Cassandra and Stanley Kronenberger; a number of nieces, nephews, close friends, and relatives of his second wife, Irene. His son, Jack Marshall, preceded him in death.
At Mr. Marshall's request, there will be no services. Interment will be in Gethsemane Gardens at Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross through Wappner Funeral Directors.
