We celebrate life in the memory of Louise, Grandma "GG" and Mom; different names for the same special person that we will miss. April 14th, 1917 to October 19th, 2016. Louise graduated from Ontario schools; worked and retired from Mansfield General Hospital. She retired when her first grandchild was born and from that time forward her grandchildren became the focus of her life. Family was everything and we often picked and canned things fresh from the garden as the smell of cinnamon bread wafted through the house. She was an accomplished seamstress making lots of the kids' clothes and costumes. Quilting was a specialty where she often made all homemade items without a pattern by looking at a picture. She made and stored quilts for all the grandchildren some 20 years ago while she was still able to do the fine needlework. She and her husband camped nearly every weekend and eventually in all 49 of the continental United States. A voracious reader, she would often get a grocery bag of books since she read nearly a book a day; over 8000 titles she recorded reading and didn't count reruns or paperbacks!. Surviving are her son; Tom and wife Sheri; granddaughter, Michelle (Dave) Polack; grandson Bryan (Sarah Whittaker) Smith; great granddaughter, Sydney and granddaughter Kristin (Tim) Gallagher and great grandchildren Mackenzie and Carter. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Richard "Dick" Smith; son Richard B. Smith; mother Gertrude B. English; father, Bruce A. English; and two brothers, Paul and Bob English.
A funeral service will be he held Monday, October 24th, 2016 at 11:30 a.m, officiated by Rev. Glenn Hamilton with calling hours from 10:30- 11:30 a.m. at the Lexington Methodist Church of the Cross, 236 Otterbein Dr., Lexington, Ohio. Burial will follow at Mansfield Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, honorariums would be appreciated to the Bellville Jefferson Township Rescue Unit and Fire Department.
