
Mabel Holmes, age 85, of 266 E. Main Street, Columbus, Ohio died Sunday morning in the Beverly Nursing Home, Columbus, Ohio following an extended illness. Mrs. Holmes was born October 29, 1915 in Ethel, Mississippi and has been an area resident most of her life before moving to Columbus three years ago. Mrs. Holmes was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and spent her life as a homemaker.
Surviving are three sons: Howard Holmes of Cleveland, Ohio, Danny Holmes of Mansfield and Arnold Holmes of Columbus, Ohio; three grandchildren, and three sisters: LuBertha Woodson of Gary, Indiana, Helen of Memphis, Tennessee, and Beatrice of Chicago, Illinois. Mrs. Holmes was preceded in death by her parents, Isaiah and Luella Turnbo Knox, her husband, Rommie Holmes, one daughter, Berta and three sons, Alvin, Roy and Rufus.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Thursday, June 21, 2001 from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 22, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mount Calvary Baptist Church conducted by her pastor, Dr. Johnny Heckard. Burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery.
