Mariann "Minnie" Hand

Mariann “Minnie” Stander Hand, 93, of Sarasota, FL and summer resident of Chaska Beach, Huron, OH, formerly of Mansfield, OH, passed away peacefully, Friday, September 27, 2013 in Chaska Beach. Born in Mansfield, Ohio, she was the daughter of Carl and Eula (Ramsay) Stander.

She was a 1938 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School. She attended Fairmont Junior College in Washington, DC and graduated from Denison University in 1942, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art. While at Denison University, she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.

During WWII, she worked at Westinghouse in Washington, DC in the war order department, then transferred to Mansfield and worked in the design department for washers, dryers, and small appliances.

Mariann married the love of her life, Avery Chapman Hand, Jr. on February 23, 1946. They celebrated 51 years of marriage, before he passed away in 1997. Most of her life, she was a homemaker raising her four daughters, during which time she was a Girl Scout leader for over 20 years.

Mariann had a very competitive spirit playing duplicate bridge and golf. She was proud to have made a hole-in-one. With an adventurous nature, she traveled various different places around the world. She had a green thumb, growing orchids and flowers.

Mariann was a former member of the First Congregational Church, Westbrook Country Club, Philomathian Club, Buckeye Garden Club, Investment Club and Our Club.

She is survived by her four daughters, JoLynn Wright of Toronto, ON, Canada, Jill (Jon) Hautzenroeder, Huron, OH, Heidi (John) Evans, Sarasota, FL, and Holly Hand (John Rodwick), Lakeside, MT; eight grandchildren, Carrie (Paul) Wright-Donaldson, Victoria, BC, Canada, Jason Wright, Arlington, VA, Marianna Wright, Toronto, ON, Canada, Avery (Lauren) Hautzenroeder, Cincinnati, OH, Andrew (Jessica) Hautzenroeder, Casselberry, FL, Reba Evans, Weehawken, NJ, Dylan Rodwick, Missoula, MT and Marley Rodwick, Salt Lake City, UT; five great-grandchildren, Avery Anne and Holly Donaldson, Victoria, BC, Canada, Avery Nicholas Hautzenroeder, Aiden and Brogan Hughes, Casselberry, FL; many special nieces and nephews; her loving long-term personal assistant and caregivers Diane Smith, Wislyne Francois, and Barbara Smith; and her faithful canine companion, Reggie.

Her husband, Avery Chapman Hand, Jr., her brother, Richard Ramsay Stander and her parents Carl Henry Stander and Eula Katherine Ramsay Stander preceded her in death.

Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at her home in Chaska Beach from 1-6 pm. Friends are invited to attend graveside service in Mansfield Cemetery on Monday, September 30, 2013 at 1 pm.
