Born on September 3, 1932, in Cleveland, Ohio, Marilyn was the eldest of three children of James and Ruth Cervik. She graduated from John Adams High School on Cleveland’s East Side and carried with her a lifelong spirit of service and devotion to family.
Through her volunteer work as a gym teacher for youth at the Sokol Organization—a gymnastics-based community group—she met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Kasper. The two were married in May 1952 and built a life together rooted in commitment, community, and compassion. Marilyn was a devoted homemaker, raising their two children and creating a warm, welcoming home.
In 1976, Marilyn and Bob moved to Mansfield when Bob began working at Globe Steel. There, Marilyn continued her tradition of service, participating in events supporting the Shriners and becoming an active member of the Eastern Star. Her faith played a central role in her life, and she was a long-time, devoted member of the Mansfield Congregational Church.
Marilyn found joy in the simple moments—especially summers spent poolside with her family. Her dedication to her daughter, Debra, who faced lifelong health challenges, was unwavering and a testament to her enduring strength and love. She also deeply valued time with her grandsons and great-grandchildren, who brought her much pride and happiness.
She is survived by her son, Michael (Linda) Kasper; grandsons, Marcus (Lauren) Kasper, Matthew (Katelyn) Kasper, and Lucas Kasper; great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Jackson; her sister, Barbara Lash; her brother, James Cervik; and her son-in-law, Peter Kerr.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 75 years, Robert “Bob” Kasper; her cherished daughter, Debra Kerr; and her sister-in-law, Geraldine Mlynek.
